Walmart is making some changes in New Jersey and Pennsylvania starting in the new year. They are testing new shopping carts called Caroline’s Carts in 11 states, with plans to roll them out nationwide by early 2025.

These special carts are designed to help people with disabilities, limited mobility, or injuries. They feature larger, more supportive seats that can hold between 35 and 250 pounds, making it easier for caregivers and parents to shop with loved ones who need extra assistance.

Currently, the carts are being tested in states like Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, and others. Walmart plans to have about 8,000 of these carts in stores across the country, with two available at each Walmart Supercenter.

Walmart’s store operations executive, Cedric Clark, mentioned that the goal is to provide better support for caregivers, making their shopping experience easier.

Additionally, Walmart is reintroducing sensory-friendly hours every day from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. During this time, the store will dim the lights, turn off the radio, and set TV screens to a still image to create a calmer environment for those who are sensitive to noise or light.

Many people hope that other stores will follow Walmart’s example and make shopping more inclusive for everyone.
