ROCHESTER, N.Y. WROC — On Saturday, the community gathered at Seneca Park for the March On for Brain Injury Walk to honor brain injury survivors and celebrate the groundbreaking work of the University of Rochester Medical Center URMC. This event highlighted URMC’s recent achievement of being named the Statewide Program Honoree by the Brain Injury Association of New York State BIANYS.
As the largest trauma center in western New York and the only Level 1 trauma facility in the Rochester region, Strong Memorial Hospital at URMC is a critical resource for patients across upstate New York needing advanced trauma care. Susan Bardack from BIANYS praised URMC for its exceptional services and dedication to brain injury care.
The event also recognized a local couple for their remarkable journey through adversity. Eric O’Brien, who suffered from numerous untreated concussions and nearly lost his life during brain surgery for a cyst, was honored alongside his wife, Maureen Mo. Despite the challenges, Mo remained a steadfast supporter, working tirelessly alongside Eric through his recovery.
The gathering underscored the crucial role of URMC and the strength of individuals and families navigating the complex path of brain injury recovery.
