A recent investigation by WSMV 4 has uncovered a troubling trend in Tennessee, where hundreds of drivers were arrested for driving under the influence DUI despite being completely sober.
Analyzing toxicology reports from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the study revealed that out of 31,567 DUI arrests between 2017 and 2023, 609 individuals tested negative for both drugs and alcohol.
This raises serious concerns about the methods used to detect impairment and the potential consequences for innocent drivers, including job loss and insurance issues.
Advocacy groups emphasize the need for accurate detection to protect both public safety and the rights of sober individuals.
