The Tennessee Valley Authority TVA has announced a partnership with the U.S. Forest Service USFS and Friends of Land Between the Lakes, contributing a total of $125,000 toward the preservation of the Land Between the Lakes LBL National Recreation Area.

The TVA will provide $100,000, with an additional $25,000 from the USFS, to support the maintenance of cemeteries and cultural heritage sites within the LBL.

This one-time funding was revealed at a TVA-hosted event, highlighting the commitment to safeguarding LBL’s historical and cultural significance.

Wade White, a TVA Board of Directors member, emphasized the importance of preserving the unique heritage of LBL, noting its value to the region and visitors alike.

The Land Between the Lakes, spanning 171,280 acres between Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake, was designated a national recreation area in 1963 by President John F. Kennedy and recognized as a Biosphere Reserve in 1991.

Originally managed by the TVA, oversight of the area was transferred to the USFS.

USFS Area Supervisor Jim McCoy expressed pride in the collaboration, noting its importance in preserving the area’s historical cemeteries and fostering continued partnership efforts to honor the legacy of former residents.
