Nashville, TN – Today, the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security TDOSHS celebrated the graduation of the latest class of dispatchers for the Tennessee Highway Patrol THP.
The ceremony, held at the TDOSHS Training Center, was attended by Commissioner Jeff Long, THP Colonel Matt Perry, and Dispatch Director Caiti Medling.
“In an emergency, a dispatcher is often the first contact Tennesseans have with first responders,” Commissioner Long remarked during the ceremony. “Their skills and professionalism in interacting with law enforcement and the public are vital as we work together toward the best possible outcome.”
The new dispatchers underwent a rigorous seven-week training program designed to enhance their communication, multi-tasking, and problem-solving abilities. This intensive training prepares them to handle the challenges they will face in the field.
“Our dispatchers may not be physically present at an emergency scene, but they are true first responders,” Colonel Perry emphasized.
Every day, their work is vital to saving lives and ensuring the safety of both our troopers and the public. Without our dispatchers, we simply couldn’t do our jobs—they are the crucial link in every response.
The TDOSHS remains committed to serving, securing, and protecting the people of Tennessee. The dedication and professionalism of these new dispatchers play a critical role in fulfilling this mission.
