Sen. Katie Britt R-Ala. argued that concerns about in vitro fertilization IVF accessibility are being used as a scare tactic by Democrats in an interview on Fox News Sunday.
She noted that she and Sen. Ted Cruz R-Texas had led a letter signed by all 49 Republican senators, asserting their strong support for nationwide IVF access.
Britt stated that IVF remains legal and accessible across the U.S. and emphasized that former President Donald Trump has committed to ensuring continued access.
Trump, in a recent NBC News interview, pledged that his administration would cover IVF treatment costs, either through government programs or insurance companies, if he were re-elected.
His promise faced criticism from Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign, which accused Trump of lying and highlighted concerns that his policies could lead to restrictions on IVF and abortion access.
Fears about IVF accessibility have grown following an Alabama Supreme Court ruling that recognized frozen embryos as legal persons, leading to potential liability for their destruction.
However, legislation was quickly passed in Alabama to protect IVF providers from civil and criminal liability, allowing services to resume.
Britt addressed her vote against a Democratic-backed IVF measure in the Senate, explaining that the bill was a show vote that extended into issues like human cloning, a concern she voiced during the interview.
The Democratic National Committee criticized Republicans for voting against the measure, arguing that Trump’s anti-choice agenda has put IVF at risk.
