LAS VEGAS KLAS — Assemblywoman Sandra Jauregui, representing District 41 in southern Nevada, recently participated in the 8 News Now Daily Voting Guide to share her vision for the upcoming election. Known for her strong advocacy for gun control measures following the tragic 2017 Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting, Jauregui emphasized her commitment to enhancing community safety in Nevada.

“Ever since then, I’ve just made it my mission to make sure that I’m leaving Nevada safer for our communities and our families than when I entered the legislature,” Jauregui stated.

During the interview, she highlighted her legislative achievements, which include laws banning bump stocks, implementing child safe storage measures, and introducing universal background checks and red flag laws aimed at preventing gun violence.

In addition to gun control, education remains a crucial priority for Jauregui, especially given the budget shortfalls faced by the Clark County School District CCSD. We need to keep making historic investments into our public education system, she argued, while advocating for increased transparency and accountability within the school district. Jauregui emphasized that merely increasing funding without meaningful reforms will not address the ongoing challenges in Nevada’s public schools.

Jauregui also expressed her concerns regarding school vouchers and choice initiatives, arguing that they could divert vital resources from public education. A family who can’t afford to send their child to public school now isn’t going to be able to make up the difference from what the voucher is to what that tuition is, she explained. That’s just a way to take money out of our public education system.”

Housing affordability is another key issue for Jauregui, reflecting the priorities of her district. Housing is a priority for me because it’s a priority for my district, she said, stressing the need for diverse housing options that remain affordable for all residents.

On the topic of election integrity and voter ID laws, Jauregui asserted, Our elections are safe and secure. We’ve never had a reason to believe otherwise.” She cautioned that implementing voter ID requirements could expose Nevadans to potential fraud by necessitating the inclusion of sensitive personal information, such as Social Security numbers, on ballots.

As the election approaches, Jauregui’s commitment to these critical issues continues to resonate with her constituents, underscoring her dedication to creating a safer and more equitable Nevada for all.
