Rutter’s, the York-based convenience store and gas station chain, is expanding its reach, bringing 50 new stores over the next five years to regions that include areas near Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Delaware, and Virginia, according to Michael Tanenbaum of Philly Voice. Known for its extensive offerings, Rutter’s already operates 82 locations across Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia, with most of its stores in south-central Pennsylvania.

The new stores, which will range between 10,000 and 12,000 square feet, will be situated on properties up to 25 acres. Some locations will feature amenities like 29-degree beer caves, wine selections, and seating areas. In addition to standard made-to-order convenience store foods such as breakfast sandwiches and hoagies, Rutter’s stands out with personal pizzas, tacos, soups, and sides on its menu. It also operates video gaming terminals at 21 stores in Pennsylvania, making it the state’s largest non-casino gambling operator.

Rutter’s CEO Scott Hartman attributes the company’s success to its innovation in food service, high wages, and a commitment to an excellent customer experience, which has made Rutter’s a customer favorite in both established and new markets.
