The retrial for Marvin McClendon Jr., a former corrections officer accused of murdering 11-year-old Melissa Ann Tremblay in 1988, is set to begin on Tuesday. McClendon was arrested in April 2022 in Alabama and charged with first-degree murder following the discovery of Tremblay’s body in the Boston & Maine Railway Yard. She had disappeared while with her mother at the LaSalle Social Club in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

During McClendon’s first trial last year, the jury could not reach a verdict. He had a long career with the Massachusetts Department of Corrections before retiring in 2002, and he had been a person of interest in the case for many years.

Recent DNA evidence linked him to a group of individuals related to the case, prompting renewed investigation.

Court documents indicate that authorities interviewed several relatives with the same surname last year as part of the ongoing inquiry.

The retrial aims to provide clarity and justice for Tremblay’s family after decades of unanswered questions surrounding her tragic death.
