ANCHORAGE, Alaska KTUU – Republican Nick Begich claimed victory on social media Saturday in the race for Alaska’s sole U.S. House seat.
Although the election results are still uncertified, the latest preliminary counts show him leading. However, he has not secured the necessary 50% plus one vote to avoid a ranked-choice runoff.
Alaskans have spoken. It will be the honor of a lifetime to serve as your voice in Congress, Begich wrote on X.
Since the first votes were counted, incumbent Democrat Rep. Mary Peltola has trailed behind Begich.
However, his declaration does not confirm the results, as ranked-choice vote tabulation will begin in Juneau on Wednesday.
Alaska’s News Source reached out to both campaigns for comment but has not received a response.
