A new University of Maryland Baltimore County poll shows Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks leading former Governor Larry Hogan in the Maryland U.S. Senate race.

According to the poll, 48% of likely voters support Alsobrooks, while 39% favor Hogan, with only 5% undecided. The margin of error is slightly over 3%.

Despite Hogan’s established popularity, with 53% of likely voters viewing him favorably, his Republican affiliation is a hurdle. Mileah Kromer, the poll’s director, noted that voters are increasingly aware that this race could influence which party controls the U.S. Senate, making party affiliation a significant factor in their decision-making. In fact, 54% of respondents expressed a desire for Democrats to maintain control of the chamber.

Alsobrooks’ campaign has effectively communicated this message, particularly among key demographics.

Her support among women stands at 53%, while 77% of Black voters plan to vote for her. In contrast, only 14% of Democrats intend to support Hogan, a stark drop from the estimated 25-30% of Democrats who voted for him in his gubernatorial campaigns.

Kromer emphasized that Hogan needs to regain the support of moderate and conservative Democrats, as well as address the gender gap and garner support among Black voters to have a chance at winning.

This polling data suggests that Alsobrooks’ campaign strategy is resonating with Maryland voters as the election approaches.
