A team of 18 crew members from Lincoln Electric System LES and Grand Island Utilities are on the ground in Washington, Georgia, assisting with power restoration efforts after Hurricane Helene left the entire city without electricity.
The crew, which departed from Nebraska on Wednesday, has been working tirelessly to restore power since their arrival.
Photos shared by LES show significant damage caused by the hurricane’s high winds, which impacted the city’s power distribution and feeder lines.
However, the major issue lies with the downed transmission line that powers the entire system.
Without it, Washington remains without electricity.
We’re understanding that the transmission line is the main problem, and until that’s restored, the town won’t have power, said Tyler Baker, a supervisor for LES.
The Nebraska team is working 16-hour shifts and plans to stay as long as needed to support recovery efforts in Georgia.
