WICHITA, Kan. – With less than two months until Election Day, political parties are ramping up their efforts to engage supporters and attract voters.
The Kansas Democratic Party recently held its annual Demofest convention in Wichita, aiming to energize its base for the upcoming November elections. The event included various seminars and a keynote speech by Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.
Kansas Democrats are focusing on both presidential and down-ballot races. Although the state has traditionally been a Republican stronghold, with GOP candidates winning every presidential election in Kansas since 1968, Democrats are also targeting state legislative races where all House and Senate seats are up for election.
Currently, Republicans have a supermajority in both chambers, giving them a veto-proof advantage.
Jeanna Repass, chair of the Kansas Democratic Party, stressed the need to challenge the GOP’s supermajority.
“As we see the impact of the American Recovery Act on infrastructure, it’s clear that who is in the White House matters. We hope this will energize both our supporters and moderates as we aim for significant changes in Kansas,” Repass said.
The convention underscored the party’s strategy to combine national issues with local concerns to build momentum leading up to the elections.
