Texas Governor Greg Abbott continues to address concerns over unauthorized border crossings, focusing on fortifying the state’s southern boundary.
Despite a recent decline in U.S. Border Patrol encounters since June, Abbott highlights the significant number of migrants around 58,000 per month managing to cross into Texas.
Abbott criticized President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in a tweet, stating, Texas is fighting back and announcing the expansion of razor wire border barriers.
Following this, Texas Army National Guard troops began reinforcing border defenses along the Rio Grande near El Paso, laying additional rows of concertina wire.
Interestingly, some of this new fencing faces not towards Mexico but New Mexico, reflecting Texas’ concern over smuggling activity spilling over from New Mexico into its own territory.
The Santa Teresa Border Patrol Station, located near Sunland Park, New Mexico, remains a hotspot for migrant smuggling, with a significant number of migrant deaths occurring in the area.
Texas’ efforts reflect growing concerns over border security, and the state’s approach involves not only physical barriers but also rescue operations for migrants caught in dangerous conditions along the Rio Grande.
