Vice President Kamala Harris has established a significant 14-point lead over former President Donald Trump in New York, according to a recent Emerson College Polling The Hill WPIX survey.
The poll indicates that 54% of voters support Harris, while 40% back Trump, with another 3% choosing other candidates and 3% undecided.
This represents a notable increase in support for Harris compared to earlier in the year when President Biden held a 7-point lead over Trump in May.
The poll highlights a substantial shift among independent voters, who had previously favored Trump but are now leaning towards Harris.
The share of undecided voters has also decreased from 12% to just 3%, indicating a consolidation of support for Harris.
As Trump continues to focus on New York, his campaign efforts may primarily serve to energize Republican voters and protect key House incumbents, including Reps.
Mike Lawler, Anthony D’Esposito, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams, who are facing competitive races.
On a national level, Harris maintains a 4-point advantage over Trump, with forecasts suggesting a strong likelihood of her victory in New York come November.
The political landscape in the state is further complicated by New York City Mayor Eric Adams facing federal corruption charges, with pressure from some Democrats, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, for him to resign, adding to the intrigue as Election Day approaches.
The Emerson College Polling survey was conducted from September 23 to 25 among 1,000 likely voters, with a credibility interval of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
