BECKLEY, WV – A tougher ban on phones in schools is raising concerns among families, students, and some teachers. They worry about how they will communicate during an emergency.
This school year, the phone ban rules have become stricter than before. With a recent school shooting just a week ago, people are asking how these new rules will affect safety.
On Monday, September 9, 2024, a Virginia teacher, Layla Jones, shared her concerns about the safety of students and staff across the country.
“We need to find ways to make schools safer and help people feel more secure,” said Jones.
Governor Justice has supported the stricter phone rules in West Virginia schools, saying the ban helps reduce distractions, improve mental health, and create a better learning environment.
