Two Colorado teens, Michael Howell-McGlynn, 19, and Kristine Elisabeth Romero, 19, were arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase that ended in a fiery crash.
The chase began early Thursday morning when officers from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office spotted the teens driving a stolen 2015 Subaru Forester in Berthoud.
When police tried to stop them, the teens sped away, reaching speeds over 100 mph.
The chase ended when officers rammed their vehicle, causing the Subaru to crash into a tree and catch fire. Police quickly rescued the teens from the burning wreck, finding a rifle inside the car. Both were taken to the hospital for injuries, then booked into jail after their release.
In their mugshots, Howell-McGlynn appeared injured with his head wrapped in bandages and blood on his chest, while Romero showed off two-toned, messy hair and a bloodied lip.
The appearance of the teens drew mocking comments on social media. Howell-McGlynn faces charges for reckless driving, obstructing police, and vehicular eluding. Romero faces charges for conspiracy and an outstanding assault warrant.
Sheriff John Feyen condemned the teens’ reckless behavior, emphasizing that authorities will continue to protect the community from dangerous criminals.
