U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith has dismissed rumors that President-elect Donald Trump might consider her for a Cabinet position, stating that she intends to stay in the Senate.
It’s an honor to be mentioned for secretary of agriculture, but I plan to remain in the Senate and continue serving the people of Mississippi, Hyde-Smith said.
With my background as state agriculture commissioner and my current committee roles, I’m fully committed to supporting the agriculture community.
Hyde-Smith served as Mississippi’s agriculture commissioner from 2012 to 2018 before being appointed to the Senate seat vacated by Sen. Thad Cochran. She was re-elected in 2020.
I will always support President Trump, and I believe I can best serve him and America’s farmers and ranchers through my Senate work, especially as we tackle the new farm bill and other agricultural and economic issues, Hyde-Smith added. I also plan to seek re-election in 2026.
