Brig. Gen. John Plunkett was officially promoted during a ceremony held at the Army Aviation Support Facility 1 in Hammond, Louisiana, on October 4, 2024. Maj. Gen. Thomas C. Friloux, the adjutant general of Louisiana, presided over the event, commending Plunkett for his exceptional leadership and contributions to modernizing Army Aviation within the National Guard.
The ceremony included military honors and participation from Plunkett’s family. His daughter, Ensign Madeline Plunkett, sang the national anthem, while his son, 2nd Lt. Noah Plunkett, gave the invocation.
Plunkett expressed gratitude for the continued opportunity to serve, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and the mission.
The event was attended by distinguished military personnel, including former and current assistant adjutants general, marking a milestone in Plunkett’s military career that began with his enlistment in the United States Marine Corps in 1983 before joining the Louisiana National Guard in 1987.
