The Michigan State Police MSP has concluded the search for 65-year-old John Kueber, who was reported missing after a kayaking trip on Lake Superior.
Kueber was last heard from on September 22, 2024. On September 29, the MSP Negaunee Post initiated search efforts, which included MSP Aviation, Canines, Marine Services, and assistance from the Alger County Sheriff’s Office and the National Park Service. Despite extensive efforts, Kueber was not located.
On November 8, 2024, hikers discovered a body washed ashore at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. DNA analysis later confirmed the body was that of Mr. Kueber. Authorities do not suspect foul play.
“This is not the outcome any of us were hoping for. We offer our condolences to the family, friends, and all those who knew Mr. Kueber. We also thank all those who assisted in the search efforts,” said Lt. Ben Eckola.
Mr. Kueber’s family has been notified and has requested privacy during this difficult time.
