The White House is expected to announce new measures aimed at reducing gun violence, including an executive order signed by President Biden.

This order will target emerging firearm threats such as machine gun conversion devices and 3D printed firearms, according to a senior administration official.

It also comes on the heels of a mass shooting in Birmingham, Alabama, on Sept. 21, which resulted in four fatalities and 17 injuries.

The executive order will establish an Emerging Firearms Threats Task Force, composed of leaders from various federal agencies, to assess the dangers posed by these firearms.

The task force will issue a report within 90 days, examining federal capabilities to detect and intercept conversion devices and 3D-printed guns, which are particularly difficult to track due to their lack of serial numbers and potential undetectability by security equipment.

Additionally, the order will direct federal departments to develop new active shooter drills for schools, aiming to better prepare students for emergency situations.

The administration emphasizes that firearm technology is evolving quickly, and these actions are crucial to addressing the rising threats posed by illegal firearm modifications and new manufacturing technologies.
