The Georgia Attorney General’s office, led by Chris Carr, raised concerns regarding proposed rule changes by the Georgia State Election Board ahead of the upcoming presidential election.
A letter obtained by Channel 2 reporter Justin Gray highlighted that some of the board’s planned rules may conflict with state law and exceed the board’s authority.
The letter noted that certain rules, such as changes to ballot forms and absentee voting processes, fall under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of State and not the board.
Other proposed rules, such as those concerning poll watchers and ballot counting, were flagged as likely exceeding the board’s powers and potentially subject to legal challenge.
The AG’s office also cautioned against implementing such changes so close to the election, less than 50 days away, and stressed that rule-making should not conflict with the Georgia Election Code.
