Steve Sledd, 60, Osawatomie, died July 27, 2010, at Miami County Medical Center. Local survivors include his wife Linda of the home; daughters Lisa Scherman and Sarah Sledd, both of Gardner; and sons Kenny Olson of Paola and Brian Olson of Louisburg. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS 66071, (913) 294-2372. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home followed by burial in Osawatomie Cemetery.

Jennifer Bell, daughter of Tony and Tammy Bell, all of Osawatomie, and Nicholas McCord of Lenexa, son of Kent and Terri McCord of Shawnee, were united in marriage June 5, 2010, at the home of the bride’s parents.

The color theme of the wedding was purple and silver. At the end of the ceremony, butterflies were released.

The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a Maggie Soterro Harmony strapless A-line dress in satin pearl/pewter, with lace-up closure embellished embroidery design on the bodice and hem with a ribbon accent at the waistline.

Steffany Madden served as her cousin’s matron of honor wearing a purple satin strapless, knee-length A-line dress with a sweetheart neckline. Bridesmaids were Kassandra Wright, Samantha Pearson, Kaylee Hurt, Kelsey Stout and Lauren McCord, sister of the groom.

Flower girls were Ashlyn and Avery Bell. Guest book attendants were Megan Brooks and Taylor Henderson. Gift attendants were Molly Bauer, Tiffany Zimmerman and Carmen Roberts.

Chris and Diane Dennis of Louisburg announce the marriage of their daughter, Kelsey Loree Dennis, on May 30, 2010, in Kansas City, Mo., to David D. Hall, son of Sherry and the late Bob Hall of Columbia, Mo. alt

The bride graduated in May from the University of Kansas with a bachelor of arts degree in speech pathology. She will be attending graduate school in the fall.

Her husband is a 2009 University of Missouri graduate where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in English literature. He is employed in Lawrence.

Grandparents of Kelsey are Romaine and Deloris Dennis of Westline, Mo., and Bill and Reno Shaffer of Drexel, Mo.

Betty Wise of Louisburg wishes to announce the engagement of her grandson, Bradley David Heise, son of Ty Heise of Kansas City, Mo., and the late Ronn and Paula (Wise) Heise, to Danielle Marie Banks, daughter of Duane and Kathy Banks, Russell, Kan.

Bradley is the nephew of Greg and MaraDona Wood, Sid and Charlene Wise, all of Louisburg; and Jerry and the late Kathy Justice of Ottawa. Other grandparents of the couple are Harold and Theresa Heise of El Dorado, Kan.; the late Dale Wise; Marvin and Helen Beers of St. Joseph, Mo.; Mary and the late Paul Banks of Russell; and Al and Aletha Denning of Hays, Kan.

The prospective bridegroom is a 2006 graduate of Russell High School and is currently a senior at Kansas State University where he is majoring in construction science and management. He is expected to graduate in May of 2011.

Leah Nadine Cawby, 90, formerly of Paola, Fontana and Louisburg, died July 17, 2010, at the Life Care Center in Osawatomie.

She was born Feb. 11, 1920, in Akron, Colo., the daughter of Everett Weaver and Emma Mast. alt

Leah was united in marriage to John Monroe Cawby on May 17, 1942, in Paola. Together, they had seven children. John preceded her in death on July 26, 2005.

Leah and John lived in Fontana until 1969 and then moved to Louisburg and later to Paola. She was a very active member of the Elm Grove Baptist Church in Chiles.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; two infant twin daughters, Susan Kay and Sally May; sisters, Eva Fort, Juanita Whitney and Lucille Hatfield.

Survivors include four sons, John Cawby of Mound City, Dick Cawby of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Chuck Cawby of Garden City, Kan., Jim Cawby of Merritt Island, Fla.; a daughter, Mary Anderson of Sumter, S.C.; two sisters, Helen Wood of Overland Park and Elsie Wells Stephens of Dighton, Kan.; nine grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, all who will miss her deeply.
