The loud growl of engines revving to their maximum revolutions per minute will soon fill the evening air as the Labor Day in Louisburg celebration kicks off with a truck and tractor pull late next week.
Modified tractors, diesel trucks and two-wheel-drive trucks will be the first to put their horsepower to the test at 7 p.m. Sept. 3, followed by antique tractors and stock 4X4 gas-powered trucks. Profield tractors, pro stock tractors, super stock tractors, modified tractors and a variety of trucks will provide additional entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. Sept. 4.

Residents who already had plans Friday evening have a second chance to attend Louisburg Night at Powell Observatory. The rain date was set for 7 p.m. Friday.
The second annual event was delayed after cloudy skies discouraged members of the Astronomical Society of Kansas City from following through with their plans.

Santa Fe South Mexican restaurant was a last refuge of sorts for smokers in Louisburg. Every other eating or drinking establishment in town had gone smoke-free prior to the statewide ban implemented July 1.
Now that the ban is in place, Santa Fe South owner Barb Owen said she has lost a niche.

In an effort to better acquaint Louisburg residents with their city representatives, the staff at the Louisburg Herald will publish a series of profiles every issue for five weeks. Today, meet council member David Cannon.
Louisburg native David Cannon is a father, small-town businessman and statesman.
He was elected to the Louisburg City Council in April 2004, after one of his friends encouraged him to give it a try.
“It’s not something I would initially warm up to, but I decided to,” he said. “I think everybody should (serve the public in some capacity).”

In celebration of 90 years of service to Louisburg, the staff at First National Bank is planning a small all-day party that will be open to the public.
In conjunction with the celebration, bank president Bob Nauman has asked the community to dig through their cabinets, rummage through pen holders and check any household items for the First National Bank logo.
