The dilapidated fence bordering the south side of Summerfield Farms subdivision will soon be history.
Members of the Summerfield homeowners association, including Mayor Curt Shreckengaust, gave a brief rundown of the HOA’s fence plans to the Louisburg Planning Commission on Aug. 25.
The current fence has portions where it extends inward about 14 feet and back out. The first draft of the replacement fence reverted back to a straight fence that would have extended from one side of the subdivision to the other.

Carol Conner was distraught, in tears over what had just happened in the morning hours of Aug. 23. Her 14-month-old Jack Russel Terrier named Cici had been shot in the heart with a pellet gun. Conner found Cici dead in the garage.
“I was shocked and horrified,” she said, struggling to control sobs as she was taken back to the painful moment. “I couldn’t believe it. I still can’t believe it, and neither could my husband.”
Conner said Cici was shot through the chain link fence between 7:20 and 7:35 a.m. while in her own backyard in the 800 block of South Broadway Street. She added Cici hadn’t been barking or anything, and was just sitting outside.

Sentencing hearings have begun to take place for seven men accused of committing several burglaries throughout the county, many of which occurred in the initial months of this year.
The men recently plead guilty to the crimes, with some charges being dismissed in each of the cases as part of plea deals.
The men were arrested June 2 and booked into the Miami County Jail thanks in part to the efforts of a task force made up of detectives from the Paola and Osawatomie police departments, as well as the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of a vehicle with nonworking brakes that killed a 22-year-old Stilwell man in April is headed to prison following a sentencing hearing Thursday.

Byrd plead no contest to involuntary manslaughter on July 29. The court found him guilty of the crime, but the remaining charges of driving with a suspended license and no liability insurance were dismissed.
District Judge Amy Harth sentenced Byrd on Thursday to three years in prison.
