Louisburg Library is getting ready to launch another round of free computer classes, and the first class begins Tuesday.
“Your Window to the Future” is for anyone interested in learning basic computer skills. Space is available for small groups of older adults, adults who have little to no computer experience, parents educating their own children, and middle and high school students accompanied by an adult.
The classes are free, but reservations are required, as space is limited. Reservations must be made by noon the day before the class, and two people must enroll for the class to be held. For more information, call 837-2217. All classes will be at 7 p.m. at the library, 206 S. Broadway St.
- Tuesday: basic computer skills 1: basic skills and terminology for using Microsoft Windows including turning on a computer, using the mouse and opening a program.
- April 16: basic computer skills 2: more basic skills and terminology for Microsoft Windows including recognizing features of the desktop and keyboard, selecting text and printing and saving files.
- April 21: basic computer skills 3: more basic skills and terminology for Microsoft Windows including creating file folders, organizing documents, changing a screen saver and changing the desktop.
- April 28: basic Microsoft Word: basic skills in creating and manipulating a document, selecting and formatting text, using undo and redo, and using cut, copy and paste.
- April 30: basic Internet: Learn how to maneuver around the Internet, use Web addresses, do basic searches, find ways to search better, and discover different search engines.
- May 19: know your library: learn Louisburg Library’s online system, including search tips, how to renew items, viewing an account, and requesting interlibrary loan items.
- May 21: basic e-mail: using Yahoo! for demonstration purposes, learn how to sign-up for a free e-mail account and use e-mail features such as replying, forwarding and attaching files.
- May 26: home improvement, gardening and cooking: reliable resources for anyone looking for information on home improvement projects, gardening, landscaping or cooking.
- June 4: intermediate Microsoft Word: Review tips from basic Microsoft Word and learn how to create lists and tables, change line spacing, add page numbers, use WordArt and other text formatting.
- June 9: basic Microsoft Publisher: Learn to create professional looking flyers, brochures and more by creating and manipulating a text box, giving a text box a border, using fill color and inserting shapes.
- June 16: basic Microsoft Excel: creating and manipulating a spreadsheet, entering data, inserting and adjusting rows or columns, formatting cells and creating formulas.
- June 30: basic Microsoft PowerPoint: using templates, entering information and inserting clip art.
- July 7: eBay for absolute beginners: creating a user profile and buying and listing items.
