Education - School Board

The leadership in Louisburg USD 416 will look significantly different next year, as details about two administrators’ departures and the board of education’s plan to fill three openings become clearer.

In February, the Broadmoor Elementary School principal position became open after former principal Debbie Blancarte resigned. At the March school board meeting, the board accepted Louisburg High School principal Sally Lundblad’s resignation because she is retiring, and at a special meeting called last Wednesday, the board accepted Superintendent Rick Doll’s resignation after he accepted a position as superintendent of Lawrence USD 497 schools.

“It’s really going to happen,” Allen said. “We’ll be dealing with the (high school principal) situation and starting the search for the superintendent and figuring out what to do with Broadmoor, so it’s going to be an interesting time.”

Retirement
Lundblad has been principal of LHS for 11 years, seeing the school through two buildings and significant growth in the process.

“I’ve been thinking about (retiring) for over a year,” Lundblad said. “I really could’ve taken an early retirement three years ago. This was not just a sudden rash decision. I just kind of feel that in everybody’s personal and professional life, there comes a time when they need to make a change — not because things are going badly, but that’s kind of where I was.

“It was a difficult decision to make, and I emphasize that because I still enjoy what I’m doing, and I love the kids,” Lundblad said.

She will continue in her principal position until the end of June, when her contract is up. Until then, she said, she will continue with exploring an initiative with computer assisted instruction and finalizing the school’s master schedule.

At the board of education’s special meeting last week, the board decided to interview current Assistant Principal Dave Tappan for the position, Doll said. In addition, applications are not being taken for the principal position.

Moving up
Doll joined Louisburg USD 416 in 2005 as superintendent and led the district through passing the bond issue that funded the construction of Rockville Elementary School and upgrades to Wildcat Stadium.

On March 10, Doll was offered and accepted the position of superintendent of the Lawrence school system.
“I have always had a desire to have the challenge of leading a larger school district,” Doll said. “It’s always kind of been my plan.”

Doll applied for the Lawrence position a few months ago, and the interview process took about a week, he said. After Doll was hired by Lawrence, Louisburg’s board of education accepted his resignation, effective May 31.

“I would like (district patrons) to know Louisburg is the most supportive educational community — their support for education is the strongest of any school district I’ve ever been in,” Doll said. “The district is in great hands because of wonderful teachers and administrators that work with the kids on a daily basis.”

A special meeting was called for 7 a.m. today for the board to discuss a strategy to fill Doll’s position. Doll said the Kansas Association of School Boards has been hired to lead the search.

Broadmoor principal

The third position up in the air is the Broadmoor Elementary School principal position. Doll and Director of Administrative Services Pam Best have been sharing principal responsibilities since February.

Doll had previously indicated the position would be filled through the district’s current administrative staff, partially due to budget cuts from the state.

But because there are now three leadership positions open within the district, Doll said the BES principal position will be advertised, and a new principal will be hired before he leaves.

“That will be taken care of long before May 31,” Doll said.

das loaf: ...
A dollar late on Lundbald resignation. Maybe now, students who earn a nomination to a Service Academy receive treatment that others do at graduation. Full honors and receive their appointment in front of their family, friends and community instead of being shun by a Principal so she could keep the ceremony short and slap all the Veterans in the face. I hope they hire someone with class and dignity, who will do the right thing by her students.
