David and Mary Zimmerman of Paola celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a barbecue lunch March 1 at the Paola Community Center. David Zimmerman and Mary Smith were married in Osawatomie on March 1, 1959. They then made their home in Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Zimmerman retired after 20 years in the military service and another 20 years at the post office. Mrs. Zimmerman was a homemaker. The Zimmermans are the parents of two children, Carol Byard and Daniel Zimmerman. The event was given by their daughter, Carol Byard, and her husband Jim of Paola. They also have four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Music of the 1950s and 1960s was played during their celebration lunch. Cake and punch were also served. A picture table containing pictures from the first years of their marriage through the present with their great-grandchildren made up a memory lane. Guests filled out a memory book for the couple with stories of the many trips to Hawaii and other places they have taken with the Zimmermans over the years. Out-of-town guests included David’s sisters, Marcia Evans of Oakland, Iowa, and Patricia Conner of Gladstone, Mo.
