The following are some recent general purpose reports recorded by Miami County Sheriff’s Office deputies as they patrol the county. At 9:10 a.m. Feb. 13, a sheriff’s deputy responded to an area near 255th Street and State Line Road after someone reported a blue sports utility vehicle was parked there for the past two hours. The deputy conducted a thorough search but could not locate the vehicle. At 10:15 a.m. Feb. 13, a sheriff’s deputy responded to an area near Osawatomie Road and Kansas Highway 68 after someone reported a cow was in the road. The deputy secured the cow in a pasture along Osawatomie Road. At 5:27 p.m. Feb. 14, a sheriff’s deputy responded to 1200 W. Amity St. to take a report from a resident. The resident said he was driving north on Metcalf Road near 303rd Street, and a white sports utility vehicle was driving in front of him. He said the front and rear passengers leaned out the windows and threw what appeared to be water balloons at his vehicle. The occupants appeared to be juvenile males. The man followed the vehicle but eventually lost sight of it. At 4:50 p.m. Feb. 16, a sheriff’s deputy received a phone call from someone wanting to report a possible scam. The caller said they had been called by a financing company stating that it could lower their mortgage rates by two points. The reporting person said they initially expressed interest but then terminated the call after the company official asked for a social security number, checking and savings account routing numbers and credit cards. The deputy tried to call the number given by the company but only got an automated recording system. At 7:23 a.m. Feb. 18, a sheriff’s deputy responded to an area near 247th Street and Waverly Road after a report of a non-injury vehicle accident involving a deer. The deputy met with the driver, who said he was traveling east on 247th Street just west of Waverly Road when he hit a deer. The animal was still alive but appeared to have a broken hip or broken back leg, and it could not stand up to walk away. The deputy was forced to put the animal down with his patrol shotgun.
