Cecil Edith Swanson, Paola, 95, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, at Country Club Estates in Paola.

On April 3, 1913, she was born in Marion County, the daughter of Robert Lee and Nellie A. Phillips Whitford.
She was married to Carl Alvin Swanson on Sept. 3, 1933, in Cottonwood Falls, Kan.

She had been employed at Goldie Peak Nursing Home, Lakemary Center and in various other domestic jobs.

As an active member of the First Baptist Church of Paola, she taught Sunday school classes and was actively involved with Women’s Circle groups.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Ronald Swanson; five brothers and four sisters.


Survivors include a son, Warren Swanson of Liberty, Mo.; a daughter, Myrna Swanson of Arkansas City, Kan.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Paola Chapel, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, (913) 294-2372.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home followed by burial at Memorial Gardens in Paola. Visitation will be at 10 a.m., also at the funeral home.
