It was somewhat of a rough stretch for the Louisburg boys’ junior varsity team both mentally and physically.

The Wildcats competed at the Paola Invitational on Saturday for two games and had a grueling game with Eudora the night before. Three games in two days is tough on a lot of teams, and it took its toll in the first two outings.

But in its final game Saturday, Louisburg ended on a good note.

Louisburg defeated Turner 62-55 in the third-place game of the Paola four-team tournament. The Wildcats scored 17 points in the opening quarter and never looked back.

Zach Hildreth, Ashton Dover and Eric Rhodes gave Louisburg a big lift in the final game. Hildreth scored a team-high 16 points and Dover finished with 13. Rhodes also scored in double figures with 11.

The Wildcats opened the tournament against Gardner-Edgerton, and it was a game they would like to forget. The Trailblazers won 66-47 and met Paola in the championship game.

Hildreth was the main threat for Louisburg, and he scored a game-high 18 points, while fellow forward Ross Dvorak added seven. Louisburg trailed just 12-10 after the first quarter, but Gardner put the game away in the fourth quarter with a 23-12 run.

Against Eudora on Friday, the Wildcats couldn’t keep up with the Cardinals in the 43-34 loss. Hildreth scored almost half of his team’s points with a team-high 14 and Clayton Houchen added eight.

Louisburg trailed just 30-29 at the end of the third quarter, but it managed only five points in the fourth.
