Last week was kind to the Louisburg girls’ junior varsity basketball team, just not to its opponents.

The Wildcats went 3-0 last week with a 53-21 win over Ottawa on Jan. 20 and later won their home quad tournament Saturday with a 42-19 win over Wellsville in the first round and a 50-16 win over Prairie View in the title game.

Overall, Louisburg outscored its opponents 145-56 and improved its record to 7-1 on the season.

“We’re really on a roll right now,” Louisburg coach Jarrod Worthington said. “But unfortunately we have to wait until Feb. 3 to play again. This will be a crucial time for us to find out if we are satisfied with where we are, or if we’re hungry to improve.”

With the three blowout wins, it is hard to find a dent in the Wildcats’ armor. Against Ottawa, the Wildcats went on a 24-4 run to start the game and never looked back.

Jordan Shearer led a balanced scoring attack with seven points, while Gentry Griffin, Sarah Dill and Marisa Mackey each finished with six. Thirteen Wildcats scored in the game.

In the tourney opener against Wellsville, the Wildcats got off to a slow start and went six minutes without scoring a point. But the Louisburg defense came through and held off any kind of Wellsville rally.

Sophomore Emily Lemke led all scorers with 11 points while Lark Hutchison and Carlie Houchen finished with six and five points, respectively.

Against Prairie View, Louisburg put the game away in the second quarter. Already ahead 12-4, the Wildcats outscored the Buffalos 19-0 in the second quarter and rolled to the 34-point win.

Kylie Geiman and Hutchison each scored 10 points in the win and Lemke finished with eight.

“We told the girls that since they had already given up a Saturday morning, they might as well defend their home court and not let just anyone walk in and take our home tournament,” Worthington said. “Our girls hear that and they were really fired up.”

This was the fourth straight time the Wildcats won the quad tournament.
