Candidates who wish to run for mayor, a seat on the Louisburg City Council or Louisburg USD 416 Board of Education have less than one week to make their intentions known.

The deadline to file for election is noon Tuesday for the April 7 elections.

As of Tuesday morning, one candidate for Louisburg mayor and two candidates for Ward 3 have filed for election.

Mayor Arlen Thompson filed for reelection. Thompson has served as mayor since 2003. Anyone living within Louisburg city limits is eligible to run for this position.

Wylie Frazier and incumbent Steve Ward filed for election in Ward 3, which encompasses the southeast portion of Louisburg south of Amity Street and east of Metcalf Road, and Summerfield Farm subdivision. This position is currently held by Ward, who was first elected in 2003.

Anyone wishing to file for election in either of these positions must do so at Louisburg City Hall, 5. S. Peoria St.

As of Tuesday morning, no candidates had filed for positions on the Louisburg school board.

Three positions are up for election. Position 4 encompasses the southeast portion of the district. It is currently filled by Tom York, who was first elected in 2001.

Position 5 covers the area bound by Amity Street on the south, Spring Valley Road on the west, 247th Street on the north and Metcalf Road on the east. John Cleek, who was first elected in 2001, holds this position.

Position 6 approximately covers the southwest portion of Louisburg to 287th Street. Jim Vallacqua holds this position, and he has been on the board since 1997.

Anyone wishing to file for a position on the USD 416 Board of Education can do so at the Miami County Clerk’s Office, 201 S. Pearl St., Suite 102, Paola.
