Candidates who are hoping to fill one of Louisburg’s two city council positions and three school board positions have just under two weeks left to file the necessary paperwork.

The deadline to file is noon Jan. 27 for the April 6 elections.

USD 416 Board of Education

Three positions are up for election this year on the Louisburg USD 416 Board of Education, including Position 4, held by Tom York, Position 5 held by John Cleek, and Position 6 held by Jim Vallacqua.

Position 4 is held by York, who was first elected in 2001. Residents living within the district’s boundaries may file for this position. Boundaries are approximately State Line Road on the east, south past 403rd Street and zig-zagging west past New Lancaster Road at 359th Street and zig-zagging back east to Switzer Road up to 287th Street and Metcalf Road.

Position 5 is held by Cleek, who was first elected in 2001. This position’s boundaries approximately include Amity Street on the South, Spring Valley Road on the west, 247th Street on the north and Metcalf Road on the east.

Position 6 is held by Vallacqua, who serves as vice president of the board. He was first elected in 1997. This position has boundaries which approximately follow the southwest portion of Louisburg city limits to 287th Street.

Anyone interested in filing for any of these positions must do so at the Miami County Clerk’s office, 201 S. Pearl St., Suite 102, Paola.
As of Tuesday morning, no one  has filed for positions.

Louisburg City Council

Two positions on the Louisburg City Council are up for election in April, the mayor’s position held by Arlen Thompson and Ward 3 held by Steve Ward.
The mayor’s position serves the entire city of Louisburg and presides over city council meetings. This position has been held by Thompson since he was first elected mayor in 2003. Anyone living within Louisburg city limits is eligible to run for this position.

Ward currently occupies the Ward 3 position on the council. He was first elected in 2003. The position covers the southeastern portion of the city, including Summerfield Farm subdivision and all city areas south of Amity Street and east of Metcalf Road.

Residents interested in running for a city council position must file at Louisburg City Hall, 5 S. Peoria St.

As of Tuesday morning, the only person who has filed for election was Thompson, who is seeking reelection as mayor.
