The Louisburg Police Department finally got the space in 2008 its officers had been craving for years. The city renovated the old Louisburg Fire Station at 209 S. Metcalf Road, reconfiguring the inside to feature about six times more space than the police department’s old facilities.

The department moved into its new space on Aug. 28 and opened the facility up for public viewing on several occasions.

“(The old station) wasn’t professional. It wasn’t business-like,” said officer Brent Ball about a week after moving in to the new building “I didn’t want to bring people in there. Now, I can’t wait for my first case where I can bring somebody inside. This town is growing, and we need to put out the best image we can.”

The new building features a 24-hour accessible lobby, where the public can call the main dispatch line if an officer is not in the building. The facility also includes two holding areas, an armory, men’s and women’s locker room, meeting space and office space for the chief and up to three sergeants, video-capable interview rooms and ample storage.

Construction on the new building continued from early in the year through the summer, to ensure officers moved in as soon as possible.

The old police department space the city rents in the Plaza Office Complex was reworked, and the Louisburg Building and Zoning Department moved in soon after.
