Students from last year’s Louisburg Elementary School proved they are a step above excellence and now have the plaque to prove it.

USD 416 Superintendent Rick Doll received notice recently that Louisburg Elementary third-, fourth- and fifth-graders did so well on the Kansas assessments in reading and math last year they were one of only 44 elementary schools in the state to receive the Governor’s Achievement Award.

Doll presented the information during the board of education’s December meeting, telling board members he was initially unaware there was a step above Standard of Excellence, which has become the standard in Louisburg’s schools.

The Governor’s Achievement Award recognizes students at Louisburg Elementary School who took reading and math tests in the spring earlier this year.

In addition to receiving a building-wide Standard of Excellence designation in reading and math, LES received Standard of Excellence designations in reading and math in third, fourth and fifth grades.

“With Standard of Excellence, we have hit that almost consistently in the last few years,” Doll told board members.

To receive the Governor’s Achievement Award, LES received building-wide Standard of Excellence in reading and math, met Adequate Yearly Progress requirements set by the state and was in the top 5 percent of elementary schools in the state.

Doll said 44 elementary, 12 middle and 18 high schools were selected for Governor’s Achievement Awards.

“Our kids are doing great,” Doll said.
