I think most of us have told other people, at one time or another, what we want for Christmas. As you get older, the holiday season is not as exciting as when you were a child, but instead you just look forward to a little relaxation.

As for me, I still get excited when I get to open presents. I am like a little kid when it comes to this type of stuff. It is one of my favorite times of the year.

I usually have a long list for people of items to get me for Christmas, but realize I won’t get most of it. It is still fun to dream though.

But for boys’ basketball coach Jim Dillon, girls’ basketball coach Terry Tinich and wrestling coach Greg Darrington, their list of what they want for Christmas isn’t very long. In fact, it consists of just one item each.

What Dillon wants over the Christmas break is pretty simple to ask for, but hard to come by. Chemistry.

His team, which doesn’t have a lot of varsity experience, has struggled at times this season with playing together. The team has loads of talent, but they just haven’t played enough together.

You can see the strides they have made in the last two games, and Dillon hopes it continues into the new year. It is something you can’t coach and you have to let the players work it out for themselves.

The top of Tinich’s Christmas list has been the same the last two seasons and this one is no different — a trip to the state tournament. The last two years, the Wildcats have lost in the substate finals and have fallen one game short.

This season, they have almost everyone back from a year ago and are already off to a 5-0 start. Although there is a lot of season left, Tinich hopes Santa Claus will finally grant his Christmas wish.

Darrington’s wish is also simple, but out of his hands. Louisburg has been stricken by injuries through the first three weeks and all he is asking for is health and the rest should take care of itself.

The numbers are up for the Louisburg wrestling team, which has loads of young talent. The Wildcats figure to qualify several for state, if they are healthy. Louisburg has been battling illness and injury all year, and Darrington would like to coach a full team for once.

Should all those Christmas wishes come true, the 2009 winter season should provide a lot of excitement for Wildcat fans and success.

So, just be good for goodness sake.
