Holy Rosary Wea Catholic School received a $500 award recently, thanks to kindergarten student Nick Walker.
Nick won the “Bag Your Favorite Book” contest for the kindergarten grade level as part of Price Chopper’s Feeding the Reading Appetite program for the 2008-09 school year.

By winning, Nick earned Holy Rosary Wea’s school library the $500 award, and his class earned a celebration party courtesy of Price Chopper.

The “Bag Your Favorite Book” contest allowed students to create a book jacket design of their favorite book. More than 1,000 entries were submitted throughout Kansas City, and winners from each grade level, kindergarten through sixth grade, were judged and selected by Prairiebrook Art Gallery of Overland Park.
Nick’s winning entry was an original book jacket design of “Food for Thought” by Saxton Freymann and Joost Elffers.

In addition to winning his school library the $500 award, Nick won four passes for his family to the CoCo Key Water Resort and an overnight stay at the Sheraton Kansas City Sports Complex Hotel.
