The facts surrounding the May 2006 scalding death of an infant are scheduled to be reviewed during a preliminary hearing next month at the Miami County Courthouse.James Boomer, 24, of Shawnee, is charged with one count of aggravated child endangerment, which is punishable by 5 to 17 months in prison and a possible fine up to $100,000. Boomer was arrested following a two-and-a- half-year investigation that began in Miami County and spread to the Kansas Attorney General’s office. Boomer appeared in court Thursday and requested the preliminary hearing, which will determine if there is enough evidence against him to warrant a jury trial. The all-day hearing is scheduled to take place from 10:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 14, 2009. The incident occurred May 28, 2006, in rural Paola. According to reports, Janis J. DeMasi, infant daughter of Fawn DeMasi, was scalded by boiling water. The infant was at home with Boomer, Fawn’s then live-in boyfriend, at the time of the incident.
